Gardening Gifts: Great Options for All Gardeners
Whether you’re planning for the holidays, birthdays, or other special occasions, it’s always good to have a list of useful gardening gifts! And what makes a better Mother’s or Father’s Day present than gardening gifts for Mom or Dad? No matter who the gardener in your life is, there are a few presents that will always be appreciated. Here they are!
Best Gardening Gifts for Women and Men
Seeds/Bulbs
If you know what your gardener likes to plant, high quality seeds and bulbs can be an excellent gift. This goes double if it’s a little bit of a splurge, like an unusual or pricy plant that your gardener might normally forgo.
Gift Cards
Gift cards to well-known gardening companies like Jung, Dutch Bulbs, and Breck’s make for an easy and practical gift for any gardener. That way they’ll be able to buy the seeds and bulbs they want.
Knee Pads/Kneeler Seat
This is a great gift for any gardener, but it will be especially appreciated if you have an older relative, like Grandma or Grandpa, who loves to garden.
A good set of knee pads are easy to store and move around as you go from place to place in the garden. For a younger gardener, these will generally be sufficient.
For older gardeners (or those with decreased mobility) a kneeler seat can be a great investment. This seat comes with a comfortable kneeling surface and doubles as a seat for working on taller plants. It also has pockets for keeping tools handy at all times.
Gloves
Gloves are an easy win when it comes to gift-giving. A nice pair of gardening gloves can last at least several years and will get used just about anytime your loved one visits the garden. I always use this pair.
Sun Hat
Working out in the sun for hours at a time can be uncomfortable, and it isn’t exactly great for your skin. Having a large, comfortable sun hat helps with the heat, especially if your gardener has dark hair! Make sure you get a light-colored one to help with keeping cool. I like to use this brand.
Garden Journal
I can personally attest to the value of this gardening gift – my family gave me one last year! You can get a great one with just the basics, like this planner, or a more in-depth one with tips and helpful information, like the Old Farmer’s Almanac garden journal.
You can get one with a yearly calendar in it, but I find it more useful to get one that has no dates in it – you can often use these journals for years if they aren’t already dated.
Bulb Planter
If your gardener loves flowers, consider getting them a bulb planter. These handy tools make digging properly sized holes for bulbs a breeze.
Trowel
Even a good quality one will eventually break (or, more likely, get lost.) You can’t really have too many of them, so getting a nice trowel for your gardener can be a very appreciated and practical gift.
Houseplants
If you’re giving a gift for the holidays, a houseplant can make an excellent gift. Whether it’s an ever-popular amaryllis, an aloe or snake plant, or even something more unique like bonsai starters – nearly every gardener appreciates having something green to care for when it’s too cold to actually garden.
Tool Sets (with Exceptions)
You’ll find these recommended on pretty much any gardening retailer’s site, but there’s a big caveat – they’re only really useful if your gardener is just starting their gardening journey or has been out of the game for a while. Anyone who’s a seasoned, current gardener will appreciate the gesture, but likely has most of the items already. While some, like trowels and gloves, are good to have as spares, other items will rarely break or get used, and just end up taking up space.
A just-the-basics, high-quality set eliminates that issue – this Fiskars 3-piece set is a good example.
